Xiaocong GE

Chinese, born in 1995, works in Singapore

Xiaocong Ge unfolds across a diverse range of media—ink, photography, installation—investigating human presence within shifting environments and material frameworks. Her practice examines how traces left behind - whether cultural, architectural, or ecological - carry narratives of memory, power, and control. Through processes that mix natural and manufactured materials, she brings to light the poetic tensions between an object’s materiality and its broader context.

Nostalgia for the Light draws on traditions of celestial navigation, myth-making, and phenology to reflect on humanity’s enduring desire to locate itself within the cosmos. Through seven photographic slides sourced from secondhand markets, the work presents fragmented encounters between the human condition and the natural world, stripped of personal context but charged with the impulse to observe and document.
