Juyon KIM

South Korean, born in 1946, works in Gwangju

Juyon KIM’s practice centers on nature not as a mere motif but as a living entity—both subject and medium. Rooted in the concept of Isuk (異熟), meaning "metamorphosis" in East Asian and Buddhist thought, her work explores the cyclical nature of growth, decay, and transformation.

Developed during her time in Berlin, the series The Unbearable Lightness of Being reflects a personal shift toward a plant-based lifestyle and a deeper inquiry into identity and embodiment. Featuring six photographs and a coat-shaped installation in which seeds germinate in real time, the exhibition offers a quiet meditation on impermanence, memory, and the material passage of time.
