Ester VONPLON

Swiss, born in 1980, works in Switzerland

Ester VONPLON is a visual artist whose practice revolves around the fragile balance between nature, impermanence, and the materiality of the photographic process. In I See Darkness (2020–2022), she exposes photosensitive paper to faint light in an abandoned tunnel in Acla, allowing humidity and time to inscribe slow, organic marks on the surface. The resulting images resist categorization: they are at once photographic prints and raw terrains shaped by elemental forces.

Vonplon frees the medium from traditional devices and expectations, inviting nature to become both subject and active agent. What appears is not merely an image of nature but its actual presence—tactile, elusive, and in transformation. Her work evokes a subtle, powerful dialogue between disappearance and persistence.
