Robert ZHAO Renhui is a multidisciplinary artist whose work blends photography, installation, video, and objects to examine our complex relationship with nature. Drawing on research, archival formats, and speculative narratives, he layers fact and fiction to challenge perceptions of ecology and human impact. His projects often focus on overlooked habitats—like secondary forests and urban wilds—inviting viewers to reconsider their place within the living world.

Native to Indonesia’s Maluku Islands, the Albizia tree (Albizia moluccana) was introduced to Singapore before 1866 to shade coffee plantations. Thriving in soils disrupted by deforestation and urban development, Albizias are now considered invasive - and even seen as dangerous because of their propensity to fall. 5 Albizias documents five trees—four in Singapore, one in Maluku—revealing the species’ key role in secondary forests and in biodiversity.
